Westpac have introduced a card specifically for the meal entertainment benefit that can easily align with your salary package and expenses.
It’s called the ‘meal and accommodation card’ and it is designed to make it easier for you to claim back and monitor your expenditure.
You are eligible to salary package up to a limit of $2550 tax free every FBT year.
What is the meal entertainment benefit?
Meal entertainment is defined as:
- Entertaining by way of food or beverage or
- Accommodation or travel in connection with, or for the purpose of facilitating entertainment by way of food or beverage.
In order to satisfy the ‘entertaining’ aspect, you must simply have a gathering of people or carry out an activity with a view to people enjoying themselves.
Why do I need a Westpac meal and accommodation card?
This card will make it easy for you to claim your benefit instead of having to apply via your payroll division for a direct reimbursement when expenditure is incurred. This can potentially take the hassle out of obtaining the tax benefit.
How do you apply for the Westpac Meal and Accommodation card?
Simply contact your payroll division for the application form and discuss with them if you’re eligible.
